Credit cards and debit cards per capita in Luxembourg 2010-2021

Credit cards per capita in Luxembourg increased to reach a value of four cards per person in 2021. Debit cards were found significantly less often in the country, as debit card penetration reached around two that year. The numbers provided are estimates, based on the figures central banks have to supply. Owning a payment card does not immediately indicate it gets used often, as there are large differences within Europe when it comes to the use of certain payment methods. In the case of Luxembourg, credit cards are likely issued by large foreign banks and are not necessarily meant for domestic retail payments.
