Number of cash withdrawals in Belgium 2005-2020
According to a Europe-wide survey held in 2017, cash was used in up 63 percent of POS transactions in Belgium. However, this placed the country in a group countries which were least likely to pay without a card.
The number of cash withdrawals from ATM machines in Belgium continued to decline in 2020, reaching a volume of roughly 150 million that year. This might be an indicator that Belgian consumers tend to use less cash money for their retail transactions.
