Annual share of contactless in total debit payments in the Netherlands 2022-2023
As of December 2023, the vast majority of debit card payments in the Netherlands were done contactless. NFC payments were introduced in the Netherlands in 2014 and mainly involves contactless payments made at points of sales, with either a debit card or a mobile phone or payments via QR codes. These methods are supported and developed by Dutch banks, such as ING and Rabobank, with larger Fintech-services such as Android Pay, Apple Pay and Pay from Samsung not yet being released in the Netherlands.
