The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic severely impacted the restaurant industry in the United States in 2020. Due to social distancing measures and general caution in public places, consumers were dining out less. Instead, restaurant-goers opted for off-premises consumption. According to the source, off-premises consumer traffic at full service restaurants in the U.S. was at 19 percent in February 2020. This increased to 55 percent of off-premises traffic in June 2020.
