Romania: volume of non-alcoholic beer produced 2019

The volume of non-alcoholic beer produced in Romania totaled 606.4 thousand hectoliters in 2019. This represented an increase of approximately 40 percent comparted to the production volume registered in 2017. At the same time, the total volume of non-alcoholic beer in Romania amounted to nearly 70 million liters in 2021 and is expected to peak at 84 million liters by 2025.

Revenue of non-alcoholic beer

In 2021, the non-alcoholic beer market in Romania generated a revenue worth 208 million U.S. dollars. Moreover, the forecast for 2025 anticipates an increase in revenue of approximately 34 percent. Per capita revenue of non-alcoholic beer also increased from just 6.49 U.S. dollars in 2015, to 10.88 U.S. dollars in 2021. However, the market share of non-alcoholic beers accounted for only 1.4 percent of the total market. Larger beers remained the most popular, totaling a market share of over 90 percent in 2020.

Sales

In 2021, the average price of non-alcoholic beer amounted to three U.S. dollars, double the amount of an average price of alcoholic beer. Especially during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, most of the beer sales came from the retail sector. According to the Brewers of Romania, only one in twelve beers was sold in the entertainment and hospitality sectors because of the restrictions imposed to limit the spread of COVID-19. When it comes to types of packaging, bottle beer sales accounted for 27.4 percent of the total sales, while PET bottles still accounted for the highest share of beer sales in 2020.
