With the COVID-19 pandemic, more households in the United States started to order meal preparation kits. In 2019, 88 percent of surveyed U.S. shoppers said they never bought kits containing fresh food to prepare recipes at home, while in 2022 this share was six percentage points lower. In that period, more U.S. consumers had meal kits delivered a few times a year. This share increased from two percent in 2019 to five percent in 2022. The frequency of ordering groceries online also picked up in the U.S.
