In Romania, there were approximately 13 million internet users between the ages of 16 and 74 in 2022, of which 95.4 percent used the internet in the last three months at the time of the survey. Three out of five users were employees, followed by students and retirees.
Generational Gap in Internet Access
In Romania, the internet sector displays notable generational differences in usage patterns. In 2022, internet usage among individuals aged 16 to 34 reached an impressive 98 percent, highlighting the pervasive integration of digital technologies in younger Romanians' lives. Meanwhile, those in the 55 to 74 age group demonstrated a usage rate of 72 percent, indicative of a narrowing generational gap in digital habits. Generation Z and Millennials relied on smartphones, with 94 percent using these devices for internet access. Conversely, Baby Boomers utilized desktops and laptops more than any other group. The country has witnessed a consistent increase in internet penetration since 2009, with a rate of 89 percent in 2022, marking a 2.4 times growth compared to 2009.
Online Video Games
In Romania, social media significantly influences online activities. About 21 percent of internet users preferred Q&A sites and forums for brand research, while almost 10 percent turned to vlogs. Facebook dominated external web engagement, constituting 93.23 percent of clicks on links from social media, followed by Instagram with 2.3 percent. This emphasizes the pivotal role of major social platforms in shaping user behavior, both in brand exploration and website navigation.
