Revenue of the film & video production and distribution sector in the U.S. 2005-2021
After decreasing by five percent in 2020 — the first year of the pandemic — the revenue of the motion picture and video production and distribution industry in the United States rose 14.4 percent in 2021 to over 81 billion U.S. dollars. The number of movie tickets sold in the U.S. and Canada in 2021 amounted to only 40 percent of the attendance recorded two years earlier, before the COVID-19 outbreak.
