Sales of the leading granola bar brands of the U.S. 2022
Granola bar brands in the United States
Granola bars belong to the breakfast food category and are often eaten as a convenient and quick breakfast, on-the-go or as an in-between snack. They are also known as cereal bars, snack bars or muesli bars. Granola itself is a mixture of rolled oats and sugar or honey. In order that the combination may take its well-known form, the mixture is pressed into a bar shape. Manufacturers often distinguish between chewy and crispy granola bars. They also come with a fruity or yoghurt coating or with additional ingredients such as nuts, seeds, fruit or chocolate. Recent trends also show enrichment with antioxidants or a higher amount of protein.
In the retail aisle, U.S. consumers can choose from a large variety of granola bar brands such as Nature Valley, Quaker Chewy, or Kashi; besides private label brands. According to Grocery Headquarters’ annual publication ‘State of the Industry Almanac’, Nature Valley was the leading cereal bar brand in the United States for the 52 weeks ending January 24, 2016 with sales amounting to about 354.3 million U.S. dollars. Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut and Quaker Chewy rounded off the top three granola bar brands. The sales data were provided by the market research company IRI, formerly known as Symphony IRIGroup.
Nature Valley is owned by General Mills, which is one of the largest food companies in the world. The company is headquartered in Golden Valley, Minnesota and was founded in 1866. General Mills was ranked as the leading granola bar vendor in the United States in 2016 with sales of about 600.5 million U.S. dollars.
