This statistic depicts the opinion of U.S. respondents in 2014 on whether or not pregnant women can eat sushi. Based on the survey, 41 percent of respondents said it was not okay for a pregnant woman to eat sushi. Eating raw fish like salmon may contain parasitic worms such as anisakid worms that can cause severe abdominal pains, nausea, vomiting, and other gastrointestinal symptoms. Pregnant women should not consume raw shellfish as it can contain harmful viruses and bacteria.
