In the twelve weeks ending October the 6th, Aldi sales increased by 7.3 percent when compared to the corresponding period a year earlier. In fact, the supermarket chain has seen a continued quarterly growth for the previous three years. During the entire period, annual growth never fell under 6.2 percent and, in most cases was over ten percent. Aldi continued to grow in the following months till February 2020.
Aldi’s rise on the British grocery market
Between January 2015 and March 2019, Aldi was able to expand its market share on the grocery market from 4.9 to eight percent. During the same time period all supermarkets with a higher market share lost percentage points. Furthermore, compared with other supermarket brands Aldi had the most positive brand recognition in 2017.

Between 2013 and 2017 Aldi Süd store numbers in the UK grew by roughly 48.25 percent, coming to a total of 762 stores in 2017. Aldi Süd’s store numbers have been growing in all regions the discounter operates, such as Germany and Ireland.
