In Colombia, a deal between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebels came into effect late last year. Hopes are high that this could also have a positive effect of bringing down numbers and quantities in connection with Colombia's most notorious export goods: Cocaine.
According to figures recently published by the U.S. Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) there is a long way to go, as the amount of hectares of coca planted and the production potential for cocaine have soared last year.
