Is Instagram Killing Snapchat Stories?
Social Media
Image-sharing app Instagram ended the year on a high note, reaching a milestone of 600 million monthly users, double the amount of users its competitor Snapchat has.
In August last year, Instagram launched a near perfect copy of Snapchat Stories, a functionality which lets users create a secondary feed of content that is only available for 24 hours from the time of posting. Recently, Instagram struck again and added stickers to its stories functionality – just like Snapchat.
While Instagram’s growth is impressive; Snapchat comes with a markedly higher growth rate of 74 percent (CAGR 13 – 16) and, as this chart illustrates, higher uptake of its stories functionality.
