The Companies Making The Most From Video Games

According to research conducted by market intelligence firm Newzoo, Tencent is the public company with the highest revenue from video games worldwide. Last year, the Chinese behemoth raked in almost $20 billion from its gaming operations, considerably more than Sony ($14.2 billion) and Microsoft ($9.8 billion).
Tencent has made investment in gaming companies a priority in recent years and it has acquired sizeable stakes in Riot Games (2011), Epic Games (2012), CK Games (2015) and Robot Entertainment (2015). Apple comes fourth on Newzoo's ranking with gaming revenue of $9.5 billion while Call of Duty and World of Warcraft developer Activision comes fifth with $6.9 billion. EA and Nintendo, two household names to gamers, come eighth and ninth with $5.3 and $4.3 billion respectively.
