Import of natural gas by European countries from Russia 2015-2020
The volume of natural gas imported into the European Union (EU-27) from Russia increased since 2015 from 124.3 billion cubic meters to 152.6 billion cubic meters. In 2020, Germany was by far the biggest importer of gas from Russia. Germany alone accounted for roughly a third of the EU-27 imports of Russian gas that year, importing almost double the volume of Italy and more than three time the volume imported by the Netherlands. The import of gas from Russia in eastern European countries like Hungary, Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia decreased in 2020 reducing their reliance upon Russian imports.
