In 2020, the European Union imported 152 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia. Analysis of clean energy solutions shows that reliance on Russian gas imports can be reduced drastically through the implementation of clean energy policies. For example, implementing the European Union's "Fit for 55" plan would result in a reduction of 32 billion cubic meters of Russian gas imports, while additional heat pump deployment and further electrification could cover 25 billion cubic meters of previously used gas.
