Germany is Europe's leading importer of natural gas in gaseous state. Germany imported roughly 61.13 million metric tons of gaseous state natural gas in 2022. Germany is connected to one of Europe's most important natural gas pipelines - Nord Stream. In 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war and sabotage at the pipeline have brought imports from Russia via this trading route into particular focus and also contributed to the notable fall in import volumes that year.
