Share of gas storage capacity filled in Europe November 2022, by country
As of November 2022, Belgium and the United Kingdom had the greatest gas storage capacity filled in Europe, at 100 percent. By comparison, Ukraine only had some 32 percent of its gas storage capacity filled. Gas storage is one measure countries adopted to ensure energy security, and is of great importance for the REPowerEU Plan, which required European Union members to have at least 80 percent of their capacity filled by November 1. The European Commission proposed the REPowerEU Plan as a response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine with the goal to end the EU's reliance on Russian fossil fuels before 2030.
