Share of newsroom employees in the US 2008-2020, by industry
Since 2008, there have been changes to the composition of those employed in newsrooms across the industry. In 2008, just 62 percent of those employed were working for newspaper publishers. Just six years later, this dropped by 10 percent, and by 2020 had fallen to 36 percent. Meanwhile, the share of those employed in broadcast television increased from 25 percent in 2008 to 35 percent in 2020, whilst the radio arm of the industry remained relatively consistent. The fastest growing part of the industry when it comes to employment is the digital side, with digital native employees increasing in number each year.
