Online vs. in-store purchase return frequency in the U.S. 2022, by generation
In 2022, about 60 percent of both Gen X and Boomers reported that they returned online purchases at the same rate as in-store purchases, while only 34 percent of Gen Z declared the same. That being said, the greatest share of Gen Z respondents stated that they returned online purchases less than in-store purchases, the only generation to do so.
