The Sprint Corporation is a telecommunications holding company headquartered in the United States that provides wireless services, and also offers the services of an Internet carrier. The origins of the company can be traced back to the Brown Telephone Company, which was founded in 1899. In 2005, the Sprint Corporation merged with Nextel Communications to form the Sprint Nextel Corporation. After the company was acquired by SoftBank in 2013, the name was changed back to Sprint Corporation and the Nextel Network was shut down.

For the 2013 financial year, the Sprint Corporation reported revenues of around 17 billion U.S. dollars. In the preceding years, before Sprint was acquired by SoftBank, the company’s annual revenues exceeded 30 billion U.S. dollars. The reported revenue of Sprint from wireless services amounted to around 2.2 billion U.S. dollars in 2013, while revenue from wireline services was at 222 million U.S. dollars. In total, the Sprint Corporation had around 47 million subscribers in 2013, of which almost 31 million were postpaid subscribers and 16.22 million prepaid subscribers.
