Average cinema ticket price in Russia 2019-2021

In Russia, the mean price of a cinema ticket was 271.5 Russian rubles in the first six months of 2021, marking an decrease from the corresponding period of the previous year. To compare, between January and June 2019, a cinema ticket across the country cost over 253 Russian rubles on average.

Is moviegoing popular in Russia?

Approximately 64 percent of Russians stated in a survey that they went to the movies once or twice a month or sometimes more often in 2019. In the same year, 216 million people visited movie theaters in the country. Russia was behind many other countries in Europe by the number of cinema admissions per capita, which was measured at 1.5 in 2019. To compare, in Ireland and France, those figures were measured at 3.3 and 3.2 cinema visits per person, respectively.

Demographics of Russian moviegoers

Moviegoers between 25 and 34 years old were the most dominant age group, accounting for almost one third of the total cinema audience in Russia in 2019. The lowest share of viewers in the country was aged 45 years and above. The share of female moviegoers was higher both for domestic and foreign films. Visits with friends were most common among 18-to-24-year-olds, while spending time with family in the cinema was a popular among cinemagoers aged 35 years and older.
