In 2020, the average level of confidence was approximately three on a scale from one to five. Dutch banking has two important characteristics. Firstly, only a few large institutions dominate its financial markets. In 2016, for example, the five largest Dutch credit institutions, which includes the likes of ING, Rabobank and ABN Amro, held approximately 85 percent of the total assets. Secondly, the Dutch banking sector is one of the most concentrated in Europe.

The figures have been taken from several publications.
The source notes, in 2015, the Dutch banks ABN AMRO, ASN Bank, ING, Rabobank, RegioBank, SNS and Triodos Bank co-operated with the survey. Centraal Beheer, Knab, Leaseplan Bank, NN Bank, NIBC and Woonfonds were added to this list in 2016.
* Consumers had to judge the trust they have in their own bank and the banking sector as a whole, with a score on a scale from 1 to 5.
