Leading iPad gaming app publishers worldwide 2022, by downloads

In September 2022, SUPERSONIC STUDIOS LTD was the most popular gaming app publisher for iPad worldwide with approximately 4.54 million gaming app downloads during that month. Second-ranked Crazy Labs generated 3.36 million gaming app downloads through iPads worldwide.

Gaming publisher highlight: Roblox

Creative gaming platform Roblox Corporation was the top grossing gaming app publisher for iPad worldwide with approximately 41 million U.S. dollars in app revenues in September 2022. The platform also made waves in March 2021 when Roblox Corporation’s IPO closed at a first day market cap of over 38 billion U.S. dollars, finishing ahead of established industry heavyweights such as Ubisoft and Take-Two Interactive Software.

Tablet gaming market

Whereas the tablet gaming segment does not reach the market volume of mobile phone gaming revenue or downloads, it is still a significant part of the mobile gaming industry. In 2021, global tablet gaming revenues amounted to 11.6 billion U.S. dollars – a sizable amount but dwarfed by the almost 79 billion U.S. dollars in smartphone gaming revenues during the same period. Tablet games accounted for approximately seven percent of the global gaming market in 2021.

Tablet gaming audiences

Tablet games are particularly popular younger gaming audiences, as children might not have access to a personal smartphone but are often allowed to use a family tablet device for online video or gaming activities. This is also evidenced by the fact that the most popular iPad apps based on downloads are either gaming or video apps.
