Mobile gaming trend in China
Among various mini-programs on WeChat, the country's most popular social media, mobile games captured over one-fifth of the total usage time. As per the results of a survey on the distribution of mobile game users conducted in 2020, a majority of players were concentrated in tier-2 cities of China, such as Chengdu and Wuhan. Gaming is not just for the young generation. About a third of mobile game users were above 40 years old.
China’s mobile gaming market
The annual growth rate of mobile gaming market revenues in China have been rapidly declining since having peaked in 2015. In 2018, market revenues in this segment took a massive blow and dropped to 10.5 percent. However, the sales share of mobile games within the Chinese gaming industry remained relatively high, amounting to 73 percent in 2022. Tencent, FunPlus, Zenjoy, and Lilith are the prominent Chinese global mobile gaming brand builders in terms of BrandZ brand power scores.
