Number of commuters in Italy 2019, by destination and purpose
In 2019, about 30 million people in Italy travelled every day for work or study purposes. Roughly ten million were students, of which 6.9 million used to commute within their own municipality, while 2.8 million travelled outside of it. Workers accounted for about 20 million of daily commuters, approximately divided equally between outside and inside their municipality of residence.
