
Money spent on content by Disney versus Netflix 2018-2022
Disney boosted its spending on content by 33 percent between 2021 and 2022. Disney's spending has been significantly higher historically, often double or nearly triple that of Netflix. In 2018, Disney's content spending was nearly 24 billion U.S. dollars, whereas Netflix spent 12 billion U.S. dollars on content that year. In comparison, Disney's content spending in 2022 was estimated to be 33 billion U.S. dollars, an eight billion dollar increase, while that of Netflix was projected to be 17 billion, the same as its content spending in the previous year.
