In 2023, Amazon stood out as the leading online marketplace by gross merchandise value. Chinese sites dominated the subsequent five positions. Pinduoduo made almost 590 billion U.S. dollars in GMV in that year, followed by Taobao, which made about 550.4 billion U.S. dollars. Tmall secured the fourth spot, with a GMV hovering around 535 billion U.S. dollars.
