B2C e-commerce sales forecast in the Netherlands 2012-2017 According to calculations made in January 2014, e-commerce sales in the Netherlands were forecast to reach 12.85 billion U.S. dollars in 2017. Data from March 2019 suggests that this prediction has been superseded, as Dutch consumers spent 23.7 million euros (roughly 27 million U.S dollars) on online products and services in 2018.
Dutch consumers buy a lot online, but likely from a domestic store

The Netherlands is in the top five of countries in Europe when it comes to e-commerce purchases; 79 percent of consumers said they used online shopping. Unlike other European countries, however, the Dutch buy something from abroad less often. This has two reasons: first, the Netherlands has several large domestic online players, such as marketplace Bol.com and consumer electronics web store Coolblue. Second, Amazon is not as present in the Netherlands as it is in other countries in Europe (Amazon translated parts of its German website into Dutch).

Certain product categories are expected to grow even more

Fashion or sports goods are the most popular products bought online in the Netherlands. In 2018, Dutch consumers expected that they would spend more money online on other products, especially products related to telecom, household electronics and food or near-food.
