Spotify Boasts 140M Active Users, 50M Premium Subs
Spotify
Spotify just hit another major milestone. Three months after surpassing 50 million paid subscribers, the world’s most popular streaming service announced that it now has more than 140 million monthly active users worldwide.
As opposed to many of its competitors including Apple Music, Spotify still offers an ad-supported free tier of its service. The company’s decision to grant users fee access to millions of songs has long been a thorn in the music industry’s side. However, in its latest deal with Universal Music Group, Spotify agreed to keep certain new releases from free users for a limited amount of time in exchange for reduced royalty rates.
