The retail value of vocaloid products within the Japanese otaku market amounted to about 10.2 billion Japanese yen in fiscal year 2021. It was forecast to increase slightly to around 10.7 billion yen in fiscal year 2021. Vocaloid is a software used to synthesize singing voices. Vocaloid products gained popularity after the introduction of the vocaloid software voicebank and virtual character Hatsune Miku in 2007.
