China: average age for first relationship by gender

According to a survey among Chinese college students, the average age that male respondents entered their first relationship was at 16.27 years old. It was slightly older than 16.17 years old for female respondents. On average, Chinese university students had their first boyfriend or girlfriend at 16.22 years old.

Respondents were from 1,764 higher education institutions across 34 provinces in China, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
68.07 percent respondents were from universities offering Bachelor’s degrees, and 31.93 percent from higher vocational education institutes.
59.67 percent at their first year, 22.59 percent at their second year, 11.11 percent at their third year and 6.54 percent at their fourth year.
34.2 percent were biologically male and 65.8 percent were biologically female.
