Canada: e-commerce share of retail sales 2013-2020
E-commerce in Canada While the percentage of e-commerce sales as a percent of total retail sales in Canada in 2013 does not seem like much, the digital buyer penetration in Canada is strong. In 2013, 63.1 percent of internet users were buying online. This number is expected to increase steadily until 2018. The total amount of Canadian retail sales in 2013 totaled 20.89 billion US dollars, and it too is expected to grow steadily in the coming years.
Leading retail websites based on visitor reach include Amazon with 74 percent, Canadian Tire with 72 percent, and eBay with 70 percent visitor reach. The products which internet users plan to purchase online according to a 2014 survey include PCs and electronics and personal accessories. Canadians are still not purchasing regularly online. In 2015, only 6 percent of online purchases occurred about once a week, and when it came to purchasing once every 2 to 3 weeks, only 7 percent of Canadians purchased online this frequently.
