Ranking of media companies in Sweden 2017, by revenueSpotify is the largest media company in Sweden. In 2017, the music streaming provider generated a revenue of nearly 40 billion Swedish kronor. The media company Bonnier AB ranked second, with a revenue of roughly 25.8 billion Swedish kronor. Modern Times Group (MTG), the Public Service Group, and Com Hem are also included in the top five ranking of the largest Swedish media enterprises.

Sigital music service Spotify was founded in Sweden’s capital Stockholm in 2006. It was launched roughly two years later, on October 7, 2008. Apart from music, Spotify also provides audiobooks, and podcasts. On the other hand, family-owned Bonnier AB is a media company that operates in eight different business areas. Broadcasting is Bonnier’s largest business segment. As of 2018, the segment’s revenue amounted to more than 8.2 billion Swedish kronor.

The Swedish media market

In general, the Swedish entertainment and media market, including for example print media publishing, filmed entertainment and broadcasting, is on the rise. As of 2014, the value was at 14.8 billion U.S. dollars and it was forecasted to reach nearly 18 billion U.S. dollars by the end of 2019.
