Canadian consumers trying to have healthy eating habits 2019

In 2019, over a third of Canadian survey respondents trying to make healthier diet choices stated they started drinking more water and other fluids. Other common approaches included eating more fruit and vegetables, as well as eating smaller portions in general.

Reasons for altering habits

There can be many reasons why one would want to change their eating habits. Unsurprisingly, weight loss was the most prevalent reason. In 2019, roughly a third of Canadians, who were motivated to change their dietary habits, specifically did so in order to lose weight. About one in 25 people made adjustments, as a result of being diagnosed with a health condition.

Breakfast in Canada

In 2019, about 60 percent of Canadians ate breakfast every single day. Less than one in ten never have that first meal in the morning. In the same year, many Canadians regularly ate a bread-based breakfast: by far the most common type of breakfast sandwich bread consumed was the bagel. Other favorites among Canadians included the croissant, the English muffin, and the donut.
