Media profiting from removing of RÚV from the Icelandic advertising market 2023

Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV) is Iceland's public-service broadcaster, supported by the government with subsidies of 5.1 billion Icelandic króna (2021) and additionally generating advertising revenue. Stripping the broadcaster of the possibility to generate such revenue has been widely discussed in Iceland. During a 2023 survey, 29 percent of responding marketing managers stated that they would transfer their current RÚV ad spend to Meta and Google/YouTube if the public broadcaster disappeared from the ad market.
