Social network penetration in Singapore Q3 2018

Penetration of leading social networks in Singapore as of 3rd quarter 2018

by Statista Research Department, last edited Jun 26, 2019
Social network penetration in Singapore Q3 2018 It comes as no surprise that the largest social network in Singapore is the leading video streaming provider YouTube, followed by the most famous messenger app WhatsApp and the social media giant Facebook. With Singapore home to one of the fastest internet connection speed in Asia-Pacific countries, the convenience of watching YouTube has driven the online content growth.
Singapore’s digital environment

As of 2018, Singapore’s population has not yet reached six million people. These are, however, on an island with an area of only 719.9 square kilometer. The high technological standard has led to the internet penetration being extraordinarily high compared to other Southeast Asian countries. A high Internet penetration rate is usually a first indication that social media has a great importance for the country too. In this case the general number of social media users amounted over four million people, reaching over 74 percent of the population. While YouTube and WhatsApp are still the most popular social media channels in Singapore, it seems like Facebook is currently losing their younger users. Young Singaporean social media users would instead be flocking to Instagram, WeChat or Snapchat.
