Most watched TV channels in Brazil 2022, by household rating

In January 2022, Globo was the most-watched TV channel in Brazil, scoring an average of 10.8 rating points. This is more than all of the next 16 most-viewed channels combined. Each point corresponded to 268,278 households. Globo, Record, and SBT were also the top three offline news brands in Brazil.

Globo – the leader of Brazilian media

Two of Globo’s enterprises stand among the leading companies in the media and publishing industry in Brazil. The largest one is Globo Comunicação e Participações, which runs the top TV channel in the country, the pay TV content service Globosat, the Globo.com websites, and the subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) service Globoplay. The other is Editora Globo, which publishes newspapers, books, and magazines. The group is also hegemonic – albeit to a lesser extent – in the online mediascape, with two titles among the top five digital news brands in Brazil.

Pay TV in Brazil is losing customers

In the last four years pay TV providers in the country were reported to have lost more than five million customers. What is more, as of the end of 2022, the pay TV household penetration rate in Brazil stands below seven percent – a figure lower than that recorded during the coronavirus outbreak in 2020. Not only is the financial segment of pay TV seeing losses, the number of pay TV subscriptions in the country is also declining.
