Most Facebook users in Belgium in December 2020 were between 25 and 34 years old, although overall user numbers suggest women used the social network more often. Downloads of the Facebook app in Belgium decreased in 2019, especially in the Google Play Store. It was downloaded approximately 348,000 times through the Apple App Store and roughly 327,000 times on the Google Play Store.

How big is Facebook in Belgium?

In November 2020, over 7.6 million people in Belgium used Facebook, a number that makes up around 65.7 percent of the country's population. Compared to other social media platforms, Facebook was more used than, for example, YouTube and Instagram. The most popular brand in Belgium on the social network was Dutch web shop bol.com with over 923,000 likes in 2020. LIDL Belgium was the second largest with approximately 614,000 likes.

Facebook or Facebook Messenger?

Not only Facebook is popular in Belgium. Facebook Messenger is the most frequently used messaging app in Belgium, unlike in other countries like the Netherlands where WhatsApp takes the top spot. Nearly half of Belgian respondents indicated in a 2017 survey that they used this app for their daily communication purposes over WhatsApp, iMessage and Skype. In 2020, most users of the Instant Messaging (IM) app were between 25 and 34 years old.
