Impact of the coronavirus pandemic on book sales in Sweden 2020, by channel

What impact has the coronavirus pandemic on the Swedish book market? The only distribution channel that recorded a decline in book sales in week 20 of 2020 in Sweden was the physical book shop, at nearly 23 percent compared to the same period a year before. In general, while the total book sales declined from weeks 11 to 16 of 2020, the market was slowly recovering the past three weeks. In week 20, online book sales and retail sales grew by roughly 38 and 18 percent, respectively.

The first case of COVID-19 in Sweden was confirmed on February 4, 2020. For further information about the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, please visit our dedicated Fact and Figures page.
