Marketing spending of Unilever 2014-2019

Unilever’s brand investment worldwide stood at 7.3 billion euros in 2019. With the exception of 2015 when Unilever spent around eight billion euros on marketing, the company has kept its global promotional budget relatively steady, ranging from 7.1 to 7.7 billion euros (approximately 8.1 to 8.7 billion U.S. dollars) per year.

  The consumer goods giant made its way to the ranking of the largest advertisers worldwide in 2017, behind names such as Procter & Gamble and L’Oréal. On a global scale Unilever was said to have spent 8.5 billion dollars on advertising in media. It was also featured on the list of most creative advertisers, claiming the seventh spot, directly behind Volkswagen – a company known for running imaginative commercials and ads.
In the United States alone, Unilever spent approximately 1.36 billion U.S. dollars on advertising in 2017. Its flagship brand, Dove, ranked among the most advertised personal care brands in the country that year, with expenditures reaching 168 million U.S. dollars2. Unilever is known for investing heavily in TV advertising in the United States – close to half of their total ad spend amount recorded in 20173. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Unilever appears in rankings of leading TV advertisers in the United States.
