The consumer goods giant made its way to the ranking of the largest advertisers worldwide in 2019, behind names such as Procter & Gamble and L’Oréal. On a global scale Unilever was said to have spent 8.5 billion dollars on advertising in media. It was also featured on the list of most creative advertisers, claiming the seventh spot, directly behind Volkswagen – a company known for running imaginative commercials and ads.
In the United States alone, Unilever spent approximately 1.36 billion U.S. dollars on advertising in 2019. Its flagship brand, Dove, ranked among the most advertised personal care brands in the country that year, with expenditures reaching 197 million U.S. dollars. What is more, Unilever is known for investing heavily in TV advertising in the United States – close to half of their total ad spend amount recorded in 2017. Recently the brand has also become an active advertiser on Amazon, ranking third on the leader list, with ad spending of 6.2 million U.S. dollars.
