Not only is Paris where the Olympics will take place, but it is also the city where Samsung held its second Unpacked event of 2024. The South Korean tech giant showcased its latest innovations, focusing on foldables, artificial intelligence (AI), and wearables. The event unveiled a new smart ring, updated smartwatches, and earbuds, setting a high bar for competitors like Google and Apple.
AI-powered folding and flipping smartphones
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 feature slight improvements over their predecessors. Notable upgrades include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, enhanced cooling properties, and upgraded cameras. Both foldables feature Galaxy AI, Samsung's AI powered by Google's Gemini. The generative AI capabilities include Note Assist, Circle to Search, and various camera functions like Photo Assist, Portrait Studio, and Instant Slow-mo. New features include Sketch to Image, which transforms sketches into images, and an upgraded Interpreter with a conversation mode displaying translations on both screens. They offer similar functionalities to the Galaxy Ring, monitoring heart rate, blood pressure, and fitness metrics. The smartwatches feature workout tracking, body composition analysis, suggested replies, gesture controls, and Samsung Wallet integration.
