The total income from admissions of museums sponsored by the UK government's Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in England declined by nearly 83 percent in 2020/2021 over the previous fiscal year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. From March 2020 onwards, museums, galleries, and cultural institutions in the country had to stay close for long periods, as the government adopted emergency measures to limit the spread of the virus. As a result of the closures, the income generated from admissions amounted to roughly 10 million British pounds between April 2020 and March 2021, dropping from over 59 million British pounds in 2019/2020.
