Mexico: smartphone gaming penetration 2019

In 2019, 83 percent of Mexican respondents who had access to a smartphone stated they played smartphones games. The activity was most popular among smartphone users aged 25 to 34. In this age bracket, as much as 86 percent of interviewees said they played such games.

Mobile gaming market share

The Mexican gaming market is estimated at 32.2 billion Mexican pesos. 86 percent of this figure is spent on console gaming, followed by mobile gaming with eight percent and desktop gaming with six. In spite of console gaming generating the largest revenues, consoles are only second most popular gaming devices amongst Mexicans, preceded by smartphones by a large margin.

Mobile gaming preferences

The three most popular mobile games genres in Mexico are casual/puzzle games, card games and action & adventure. In terms of spending, over three quarters of mobile gamers do not make in-game purchases. Among the remaining 24 who do make such purchases, the most popular items bought were equipment, game credit and exclusive game content.
