Annual app downloads of Facebook Messenger 2015-2023, by region
From January to August 2023, downloads of Facebook Messenger experienced a decrease across all examined regions. In the Asia-Pacific region, Messenger downloaded went down to 70.2 million, compared to 143 million for the last measured full year period. Between 2015 and 2021, downloads of Facebook's instant messaging app experienced a downward trend in the North and Latin American region, slowly decreasing from more than 300 million in 2015 to 181 million in 2020, and dropping by an additional 40 percent year-over-year in 2021.
