Super Bowl advertising revenue 2003-2020

In 2020, companies spent 449 million U.S. dollars on in-game advertising during the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl LIV was played between Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, and took place in Miami on February 2nd, 2020. The Chiefs won 31 to 20 that year.

Super Bowl pop-culture element

Watching Super Bowl commercials is an annual pastime of many Americans, and thanks to the internet, it is also popular around the world. Therefore, Super Bowl attracts many high-profile companies to advertise and enhance their visibility. In 2020, the companies which showcased their products, included Amazon, Budweiser and Febreze, just to name a few. That year, 70 commercials were shown during the Super Bowl broadcast, amounting to a total ad time of 46 minutes. The average cost of a 30 second commercial spot during Super Bowl 2020 was 5.2 million U.S. dollars.
One of the major attractions of Super Bowl is the Halftime Show, which represents a fundamental link to pop culture, and has popular singers performing. In 2019, for example, it was officially known as the Pepsi Halftime Show, where Maroon 5 led the stage, along with rappers Big Boi and Travis Scott. The halftime show that year was veiled in controversy linked to Colin Kaepernick's protests against police brutality and claims of NFL's unjust treatment of the player. As a result the show was reported to garner negative reviews and lowest rating in a decade.
