In 2023, the trade balance of plastic waste in South Korea amounted to a deficit of around 15 million U.S. dollars. Exports of plastic waste had been higher than imports until 2018. South Korea produces more than 4,000 tons of plastic waste every day, but a huge amount of plastic waste is imported to the country due to the non-recyclable materials of domestic plastic products.
