As of March 31, 2022, the Japan Self-Defense Forces (JSDF) had commissioned 47 destroyers into service, making it Japan's primary naval ship type. Japan's naval vessels belong to the maritime branch of the JSDF, which is called the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force or JMSDF.
