This statistic presents the amounts ceded to the leading non-life market reinsurance companies in Europe between 2014 and 2016. Reinsurance cessions are understood as the proportion of the risk that the primary insurer passes to the reinsurer. This reduces the risk exposure of the insurance policy of the ceding company. The accepting company receives the premium for taking on the risk, but has to pay a commission. As of 2014, the leading reinsurance company, Lloyd's of London, received cessions in value of 6.7 billion euros. By the end of 2016, the reinsurance cession value for Lloyd's of London grew to 7.9 billion euros.
