Banking sector total assets as percentage of GDP in Sub-Saharan Africa 2010-2020
As of 2020, total assets of the banking sector in Sub-Saharan Africa corresponded to 78.5 percent of the region's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The ratio, which offers an insight into the relationship between services provided by banks and the economy's size, increased substantially from 55.6 percent in 2019. Previously, the indicator fluctuated around 50 percent of the GDP.
